There was a reliable source was posted on Facebook by Amtrak Employee that announced Silver Meteor will have Traditional Dining being offered on the train on or about June 24, 2023 and this is good news so the Flex Dining will no longer being offered anymore so which by means all sleeper passengers will have new improved dining service and for first time since COVID-19 pandemic, coach passengers will have ability to access to the dining service.
The bad news is that Amtrak is removing one sleeper on 97/98 trains. Train car #9712 and #9812 will be no longer in service and being removed from the consist. The classic Viewliner I will be 9810/9710 and the Viewliner II with public toilets will be the train car number #9811/9711. Amtrak may and will have notified you of the change or will doing so shortly.
If you are being informed the changes to your reservation, we suggestion for sleeper passengers to put in request move your room to the Viewliner II car if you don’t want the toilets in the room.
Which by means these are the consist trainsets as of June 24, 2023:
Silver Meteor #97:
- P42DC locomotive (Washington–Miami)
- P42DC locomotive (Washington–Miami)
- Amfleet II Coach
- Amfleet II Coach

- Viewliner II Dining Car
- Viewliner I #9710
- Viewliner II #9711
- Viewliner II Baggage Car
Silver Meteor #98:

- P42DC locomotive (Miami-Washington)

- Amfleet II Coach
- Amfleet II Coach
- Amfleet II Café/Lounge Car

- Viewliner I #9810
- Viewliner II #9811

Therefore, if you feel this is not right, write a letter to your congress/senate in your state and demand full restoration and more train sets should be restored. Remember, train is a public right, not privilege.
UPDATE: The service change now moved to June 26, 2023 as it was confirmed by Amtrak LSA employee.
